Special note: Because so much of this park can be driven by shows, this is a good park for a rainy day.

Lightning Lane recommendations #

Tier 1: Again, depends on riders’ preferences:

  • Slinky dog
  • Rock n’ Roller Coaster

I wouldn’t usually recommend Runaway Railway because you can typically Rope Drop it. That being said, it’s my favorite ride in DHS right now, so we book it as our Tier 1 (call me a hypocrite! I can take it!)

Tier 2:

  • Tower of Terror
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Toy Story Mania

Individual Lightning Lanes and Thoughts:

  • Rise of the Resistance: You can get on this if you Rope Drop it, but this ride is notoriously temperamental. One bad morning for Rise, and your entire Rope Dropping plan can go out the window! So, this is a good backup plan!

Are Lightning Lanes necessary for DHS? #

Ruling: Possibly. It depends on the party’s priorities. There are a lot of big-hitting thrill rides in this park that you won’t be able to get on without Lightning Lanes. But if you’re trying to just have a fun day taking the kids to the shows, you don’t need it.

How I would “run” my DHS morning #

Lightning Lanes booked: Slinky Dog if I was normal, but I’m not, so I book Runaway Railway Rope Drop: Rise

  • Mickey and Minnie’s runaway railway: ride

  • Vacation fun: short movie with Mickey and Minnie: across from Backlot
  • Meet Olaf at celebrity spotlight: across from Backlot
  • Meet Minnie and company on red carpet: next to ABC commissary
  • Star Tours: Across from sci-fi dine-in

Grand Avenue #

  • Muppet vision 3D: across from PizzeRizzo (for now! ☹️)

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge #

  • Rise of the Resistance: next to Resistance supply
  • Millennium Falcon: next to the, you know, Millennium falcon

Toy Story Land #

  • Alien swirling saucers: ride, next to giant Buzz
  • Green army drum corp: show/character experience: SET TIMES
  • Slinky Dog Dash: back on its own
  • Meet the toys: middle of the area, not far from Toy story mania
  • Toy Story Mania: ride, across from big Jesse

There's a cut through to Pixar place on the opposite side of woody's lunch box

Pixar Place #

  • Meet Sulley at Walt Disney presents: right behind runaway railway
  • Walt Disney Presents: multimedia journey of disney

Animation Courtyard #

  • Voyage of the Little Mermaid: stage show (coming back this summer!)
  • Disney junior dance party: SET TIMES
  • Meet Disney Junior Pals in the animation courtyard: they’re labeled as being in the middle of the courtyard
  • Star Wars Launch Bay
  • Disney Visa Member photo opportunity: star wars launch bay

Sunset Boulevard #

  • Beauty and Beast live on stage: across from Rosie’s and Catalina Eddie’s: SET TIMES
  • Rock n Rollar Coaster: back on the opposite side of the Tower of Terror
  • Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy: behind Rock n Rollar Coaster
  • Tower of Terror: back behind Beauty and the Beast
