Welcome to Four Magic Makers! This blog will be dedicated to chronicling the adventures of our family as we take our trips to Disney. It will feature tips, tricks, and tales of travels!
But first, I’d like to introduce us and give you some background on how we became Disney obsessed. I’m Kas, the mom of the Four Magic Makers, and, most likely, the one that will frequently be physically writing our blog posts. I am a teacher by day, a novelist by night, and apparently now a blogger by… whatever spare time I manage to find within my day.
I first fell in love with Disney as an adult. In 2012, I was offered my first teaching job… in Florida. I had lived in Pennsylvania my whole life, but teaching jobs were in short supply in PA, so I took the plunge and moved 1,000 miles away from home. Teaching was that important to me. Striking out on my own was that important to me. It was worth it—I changed so much over the course of my time in FL—but I also found one love of my life there: Disney.
I had expected to love Universal more. In those days, I was obsessed with Harry Potter, and while we did frequent Universal, I found myself pulled more and more towards Disney.
There was something charming about it—endearing about it. It’s a quality that has continued to appeal to me over time and frankly appeals to me even more now that I have kids.
But when I moved back up north, I was forced to take a break from Disney. I met my husband, Mitch. He’s a Software Engineer for the federal government by day, an app developer by night, and the formatting team for my novels in whatever spare time he can find.
I found a teaching job in Maryland, his home state, and I settled in. We got married. We had kids. It was a busy couple of years.
When we finally got to take our first family trip to Disney, Mitch and I both fell in love all over again. By the end of that summer, we were DVC members.
For my husband, going to theme parks has always been in his blood: his family, my in-laws, take annual to semi-annual pilgrimages to Busch Gardens, Disney, Hershey, and Universal. It was actually one of the things that drew us together at the start of our relationship: he liked that I knew “how” to theme park from my time spent living in FL. To this day, I’m one of the few people in my extended family that can keep up with my Father-in-Law in a theme park.
And, unashamedly, we’re training our kids to be much the same. Our kids walk fast—well, our daughter, at the age of five, does, and I’m determined to train our Son, currently two, to be much the same once he’s a little older. She proudly knows her way around every corner at Disney. She knows where we are and she knows where she's going. She takes pride in being a Disney kid, something I’m hoping continues as she grows older.
Our Son's a little more hesitant to walk, but we’re working on it. He’ll be three the next time we go, so I’m hoping we can get him into walking just as much as our daughter. Although I will admit that I do sort of dread the day we have to leave the stroller behind; it’s ever-so-good for storing things!
So, this is us: One nerdy family seeking to make magic every time we go to Disney! We hope you’ll come along for the ride!
